NPORS CAT & Genny
A 1-day course that provides learners with their NPORS CAT & Genny Operator Card.

Course overview
The NPORS CAT & Genny training course is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely locate and avoid underground services in construction and site-based environments.
This course focuses on the correct use of Cable Avoidance Tools (CAT) and Signal Generators (Genny) to detect buried services such as electrical cables, gas pipes and water lines. Learners will develop an understanding of the risks associated with underground utilities and how to minimise the likelihood of strikes during excavation activities.
Throughout the training, emphasis is placed on safe systems of work, interpreting detection signals, and following correct scanning techniques. Learners will also gain an understanding of relevant health and safety legislation and best practice guidance for avoiding underground services.
Upon successful completion of the course, learners will be awarded the NPORS CAT & Genny Operator Card. This certification confirms that the holder has demonstrated the required knowledge and practical competence to safely use Cable Avoidance Tools (CAT) and Signal Generators (Genny) to locate underground services.
The NPORS card is widely recognised across the construction industry and serves as proof of competence when carrying out excavation and groundworks activities.
